Is nose piercing considered culturally unacceptable in Thailand?

Is nose piercing considered culturally unacceptable in Thailand?

I was wondering because I am moving there in November, but I really want to get my nose pierced next week. I know in some cultures it's not acceptable (for example, in Liberia it means you're a hooker) and I definately don't want to give the wrong impression, especially since I'll be working with kids who come from abusive backgrounds.

Answer by James B
It depends on where you are working and who you are working for. Overall, the Thai people are very tolerant. If your boss is young, and you are not working with very many older folks, then it would be fine. If you are working in a public school, or with government officials, or if your boss is over 45, it might not be a great idea.

My suggestion is this, wait until you get here to do it. You will know within a week of starting your new job if it is ok or not. There are too many places to get tattoos and piercings to list, and the majority of them adhere to reasonable safety standards. The other thing you could do is pierce it now, take it out before your first day of work and then if it is ok, wear it the next day, if it would not be ok, then just leave it out.
