Geothermal energy research - any going on in Cameroon?

Chevron ads say they want to be the world-leader in geothermal energy. So, are they, or anyone else, doing any research, etc, in Cameroon?
There was an agreement in 2003 and 2006 over Bakassi Peninsula, but the enforcement that agreement seems to be falling apart. This may take some oil out of Cameroon's energy portfolio - this gives greater value to Geothermal for improving the quality of life there. Chevron may have the best incentive to bring stability there...will log in to that "willyoujoinus" site you recommend.

Answer by carbonates
They already are the world leader in geothermal energy. Chevron operates major geothermal power plants in Indonesia and the Philippines. Chevron generates 1,273 megawatts of geothermal energy—about 13 percent of the world's geothermal supply in the Pacific Rim alone. This is not something new for Chevron, as Unocal (formerly Union Oil) which is a part of Chevron has been developing geothermal energy for decades. By 1978 Union Oil had drilled about 300 geothermal wells in the US and Canada.

Cameroon's primary energy resource is petroleum. However the country has great potential for geothermal energy due to the volcanic and seismic areas in western Cameroon around Mount Cameroon. Looking at Chevron's recent reports on Africa I can find no reference to any geothermal projects in Africa. Chevron is active in Cameroon as an oil producer and recently purchased Shell's operations in Cameroon, so they are expanding there.
If you think Cameroon has a good potential market for geothermal energy, I suggest you make that known to Chevron. You never know, they might listen.

In searching I found no other references to geothermal energy in Cameroon, although I did find there is more potential for hydropower in Cameroon. Cameroon currently generates most of its electricity from hydroelectric plants according to the EIA and IEA.
