How does a multiple-entry visa to Russia actually work?

I wish to visit St. Petersburg on two different occasions, for two different reasons and for two different lengths of stay. The first time would be in mid-March for a week (actually 6 days -- includes landing and leaving) and the second would be during the summer (dates are not set yet because it is a homestay program where I would be teaching English to a host family -- but it would be for a duration of two months). From this, my situation calls for a double-entry into Russia, where the first entry dates are known and the second entry where the dates are roughly estimated from mid-June to mid-August. Please, which type of Visa would I need for a double/multiple-entry, and how does a multiple-entry actually work? do both sets of dates need to be known, or is there flexibility with the other dates because a multiple-entry has enough time allotted within it?

Answer by luludoodie
Visited Russia last year on same multi entry visa.
Their website is the worst in the world. Crashes, doesn't work, changes/omits things etc. etc.
It took me 2.5 hours and I still got it wrong!
I am in the UK and used a visa agent tp process it for me. They check it and tell you where you have got it wrong and how to change. What they tell you - to get the visa - is nothing like what the website says!
Strongly recommend you use an agent if you don't want to blow a blood vessel at the lunacy of it all!
