<p><i>Answer by Roderick F</i><br/> Spain wished to surpress the Netherlands because of the large number of Protestants living there. He sent an inquisition to sort them out. After a period of time, William of Orange and other Dutch rebelled against Spanish rule (Spain and the Netherlands were owned by the Habspurg dynasty)

Spanish fury is a term to describe what happened in Antwerp during the Dutch War for Independance (which lasted 80 years). The Spanish brutally ravaged Antwerp after a lenghty siege. they called tht destruction Spanish Fury</p>
