<p><i>Answer by Will</i><br/>No particular country. Slavers plied their trade up and down the west coast of Africa. Generally, slaves came from as far north as the region of the river Gambia, and as far south as as Ghana, Sierra Leon, and Togo.

Liberia was purchased by the Americans in the 1820s and was created to be a haven for liberated slaves. It was part of the "Back to Africa" campaign initiated by President James Monroe, which is why the capital of Liberia (to this day) is "Monrovia".</p>
