How long should I tan for before going on a cruise to the Bahamas?

How long should I tan for before going on a cruise to the Bahamas?

Hello! I am going on a cruise to the Bahamas in the beginning of June and I am a very fair skinned blonde. I obviously don't want to cook on my first day on the ship and be miserable. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long I should take to the tanning bed and for how long before I go on vacation. I am well aware of skin cancer and the risks. I don't go tanning regularly. I just want to build a safe base so that I'm not scorching myself on my vacation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

All you need to do is stay out in the garden doing some weeding for a few days before as June is a fairly nice sunny month already, just put on a tank top and a sun hat or maybe go sit on your porch or in the park and read every afternoon for a couple of hours, anything to expose your skin to some sunshine for a couple of weeks before you leave would be better not to mention, quite nice!

While on the ship, remember that the hottest hours are between 11 & 2pm, so go and eat lunch or sit in the shade or something, then when you are in the sun, cover up - big floppy wide brim hat for your face & ears, loads of factor 40-50 everywhere, you will get a great tan and not burn.
Also, be sensible..don't fall asleep and roast for hours, it would only take about 15 minutes to burn! Turn around regularly to even the exposure to front, sides, back etc and take lots of breaks in the bar or shady areas throughout the day.
