How can i distinguish the China today vs the previous china?

Can someone explain to me like the differences in today's (modern) China vs. previous China in terms of history. So like what are some differences that can distinguish the two different China. All I can think of is like how today's modern China is all unified into one where as in previous, China was divided into different states. But could anyone give me more description?

Answer by JC
Depend what you mean by "previous China". From the beginning of Chinese civilization (around 5,000 years ago) China was a kingdom under an absolute monarch - king or emperor. In between the long history the country was first united during Qin and then there were splitting of the countries as interludes to unifications.
Then the monarchy system continued until 1911 when modern China was formed. But it was still plagued with civil war and social unrest. A major civil war broke out and in 1949 the communists won the war and People's Republic of China was formed. The defeated Nationalists fled to Taiwan and rule from there until today.
Actually we do not have yet a unified China today, we have to wait until Taiwan become part of China once again and then there'll be only one China.
