why do the japanese soccer players have english characters for their names on their jerseys?

I am watching Cameroon vs Japan and wondered why they always have English characters for their names? It is convenient for me being an English speaker but really? Why do they not use Japanese characters?

Cameroon best answer:

Answer by JDoramaKing
Most Japanese can read in English and it's everywhere in Japan, and almost all of the songs have English words in it. I guess they're trying to raise an educated society? Japanese characters are adopted from China, and they also have 2 other characters called Kataka hiragana or something like that. Personally, I think it's ridiculous with all of the English. I don't really know the reason, but I know that the Japanese people are very hard to understand culturally. For example, they embrace English, Chinese, or whatever, but at the same time, they seem "racist". They learn English, but it's very common for them to not want to sit next to a foreigner. They have no foreigner signs at the front of the business, but people inside may be singing karoake to English songs.
