What's your vision of Colombia and South American countries?

What's your vision of Colombia and South American countries?

I've been thinking of visiting South America and I wanted to know what do you think of this continent and Colombia, specially.
Before this, I really hope open minded people and not peruvians, argentinians, colombians, brazilians, etc. defending (or not) their own country. I want opinions from different people who have been there or haven't but know something or have something to say about it.

Answer by Wayne
If I wanted to go visit a South American country, since I do not have a death-wish, Colombia would be the absolute last country I'd visit. You might want to check this out:

This is just full of epic fail. Don't go there if you want to come back (alive).

If I wanted to go to a South American country, I'd hit Brazil. And I'd stay low-profile and dress like a bum, probably tell everyone I was Australian (I wouldn't even *say* "American" in a South American country, even Brazil, but doubt I could pass as British).

This is one of the pictures I took on February 4, 2008 at the "Walk for the Peace of Colombia". It started and ended at Olympic Plaza, with a walk along Stephen Avenue Mall. It was quite cold, but everyone seemed quite enthusiastic, and determined to endure the bad weather. People were calling for an end to the kidnappings, killings, and other violence committed by FARC in Colombia.
