What happened during the Cambodia Genocide?

Does anybody know anything about the Cambodia Genocide?

Cambodia best answer:

Answer by perfectlybaked
A military group led by Pol Pot enforced extreme martial law upon the people.

Even kids were tortured and executed by the army.

There were massive fields and swamps of dead humans.

Pol Pot died in his sleep and was never indicted by the UN.

The army tried to create what is being termed "agragarian" society, which is a society I guess that farms all the time and doesn't have technology. I'm not too sure of that so you'll have to research the meaning of that.

There was actually an award-winning movie made about it.

The Vietnamese government heard about it and invaded Cambodia and liberated the people from the army.

I'm not really sure why the army killed so many. I don't think there was much rebellion. I think they were trying to send a message, like Saddam Hussein did, by being brutal from the start so that no rebellion would ever occur.

Saddam Hussein, if ever rebelled against, would execute the leader of the rebellion AND his whole family. That's kinda how he ruled Iraq, which we can see is quite lawless now.

Pol Pot was Cambodia's Saddam Hussein, and he was later quoted as saying, "My conscience is clear." He died in his sleep of natural causes, which is an irony since he murdered children.
