<p><i>Answer by Charlie</i><br/>Nothing can stop earthquakes fromoccurring. Chile has done an excellent job of educating it citizens on what to do when an earthuake happens. They also have very high standards for building codes...so buildings are more earthquake resistant. Continuing to replace old buildings with new earthquake resistant ones, and continued education is the best thing they can do to prevent deaths from earthquakes.</p>
