I am an Asian girl who is currently studying in California. Although the world changed drastically for the past 20 years, but some conservative thinking is still strong with some peoples.
I witnessed many guys (some of them are my close friends) fall in love with girls but were too afraid to express their feeling and make the first move. They (the guys) hope that the girl will make the first move to date them. I feel very sorry with these guys and can not understand their thinking. As a girl, I understand what is in girls mind, especially Asian girl. The girl just would not make the first move to go after the guy that she likes, unless she can not live without the guy.
If a guy wants to develop a relationship with a girl and the girl is also interested in the guy. The guy should not be hesitated to express his feeling to the girl. If guys do not act fast, you will feel unsettle and the girl that you love will also be in the same situation. Girls' minds are complicated, especially when she realizes that someone is interested in her. She might feel happy but at the same time she could be in the position that she is confused about whether to accept the guy or not. If you are rejected by the girl, it does not mean that she is not interested in you or neither is she testing your patience, especially when that was her first time in love. She is actually struggling within herself about this guy who is suddenly intruded into her life. Same for the girls who was failed in her previous relationship, her resistant is mainly because she is trying to protect herself from being hurt by failed relationship again.
Guys! Do not fear that your action will bring bad image on you. If you do not make the first move, it is unlikely that she will. Therefore, nothing will happen and you may lose her forever.
For an Asian girl to reject a guy at his first attempt is absolutely normal. Do not be discouraged by that, it is always hard to guess what is in an Asian girls mind. She may change her mind after a few attempts by guys. It is silly to give up just after she had rejected you for the first time. Asian girl is easy to move by your " never say die " attitude. She will say yes ultimately, either to you or someone else who is more persistence.
A guy who gives up just after his first try may leave the girl in a difficult position, if she happens to be interested in the guy. She could be regretted that she had rejected the guy that she likes. She may blame herself again and again after that. She may also feel distress whenever she meets the guy and the guy is trying to avoid her. Do you guys want to see your love one suffers just because she was being confused and trying to protect herself? Do you know how much she wish that you can say the same thing to her again? Guys, do not let your pride destroy a potential wonderful relationship.
