How cute is the little flower girl at a wedding? In her pretty dress with her basket of petals, there is no one more darling than her at the wedding ceremony. The only thing she needs is the perfect decoration for her hair to make her look complete. These are some sweet ideas for flower girl headpieces.
The most traditional flower girl headpiece is a floral wreath. They are especially lovely for a garden wedding, but can work equally well for an indoor ceremony. The keys to designing the perfect wreath are color and proportion. The flowers for her circlet should either be classic white or the same hue as the bridesmaid dresses. The wreath that looks so darling on a four year old might be met with some resistance by a nine year old on the verge of becoming a "tween". A simple option is a crystal or pearl barrette to pull back some of the young lady's hair. There are countless pretty barrette choices out there; simply select the style that best coordinates with her flower girl jewelry. Let an older bridesmaid help pick out her own special barrette, even if it means she chooses a sparkly one when her flower girl jewelry is pearl or the other way around. She will be delighted to get to make the choice for herself.
Forgoing a wreath does not have to mean giving up on fresh flowers for your little girl's hair. For a girl with long hair, try plaiting it in a fancy braid. Small blossoms such as stephanotis or spray roses can be pinned into the twists of the braid for a lovely effect. Or secure a single flower to a hairband holding the bottom of the braid. Fresh flowers can wilt easily, so they should be added to her hair as close to the start of the ceremony as possible to ensure they look good. If the flower girl's hair decorations start to wilt during the reception, by all means have someone slip them out of her hairdo!
Headbands are another terrific idea. Perhaps the best thing about them is that they work for all ages, all hair lengths, and all hairstyles. For young girls, a band with petite organza flowers is darling. A pearl headband is a fantastic style for the older flower girls. You can also opt for a headband with a seasonal flair, such as a luxe velvet for a winter wedding or one with tiny seashells for a beach wedding.
