The United States Talent Drain to China

United States

The United States has been known for decades as the go to place for starting a business or working for a major business but the times they are a changing. The US is seeing what many call the great brain drain meaning the top new talent as well as even some experienced talent are choosing to go to other countries such as China, India, Japan, and so on to have a better chance with the United States economic programs and political tensions.

These talented individuals are for the most part connected to the countries they are going to such as they were originally from there or their parents, spouses, or so on are from the country they are moving to. The NY Times has documented this instance in their "The Great Brain Drain" article in which they spoke about the exact things in this article with a focus on China and a follow-up on India.

China is the main drainer of talent from the US as they are not just recruiting nationals but also recruiting top American talent from some of the most respected financial and marketing firms in the country. The Chinese market is quickly expanding due to the mass consumerism of their products and now that the Chinese are building a middle-class for the first time it is apparent they are generating mass buying power. When you compare the populations of America and China it is no surprise that the United States is outnumbered by close to three and a half times. This of course does not equal more money for those moving to China as the market is still an emerging one meaning that many of those billion have little to no buying power when compared to the United States. As of right now the US has more buying power but that has been quickly diminishing since the economic collapse of 2008.

The brain drain is something that many US economists are keeping a close eye on as the dollars buying power keeps getting lower. The dollar is a good indicator in the amount of talent leaving the United States as many US firms are even moving employees to focus more on European markets as the Euro at this point pays close to twice as much as the United States dollar. The thing that economists say they are most worried about is the manufacturing of the United States that is leading even manual blue collar laborers to think about moving to other countries just so they are able to find work. The brain drain is happening at a very alarming pace as is evident by Chinese, Indian, and Japanese dominated work-fairs at some of the American top colleges and universities.
