What wil actually take place during the 2010 FIFA Preliminary Draw?

I see that the event is taking place this Friday (Nov 25th), but I can't find out why the event is being held. What exactly are they drawing for? I'm confused because only South Africa has qualified.

Answer by foongwk140804
the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers draw takes place in Durban, South Africa on Sunday, 25 November 2007.
prior to the draw, there are already some preliminary round of qualifying matches takes place in various confederations beginning in August 2007 to decide which teams goes to the main draw on 25 November 2007. teams in Asia, Africa, Oceania & South America have began their 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign even before the main draw is conducted.
only teams from South America & Oceania were spared from the draw as the route to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals is already known.
the Oceania zone has already move into the 2nd round with only 4 teams left which is NEW ZEALAND, NEW CALEDONIA, FIJI & VANUATU. the teams will play in a single round-robin league, home & away & the group winners will square-off against the 5th place team from Asia for a place in the finals.
the 10 South American teams except (GUYANA & SURINAME who are members of CONCACAF) will play in a single round-robin league, home & away & the top 4 teams will qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals. the 5th place team will square-off against a team from North & Central America & the Carribbean (CONCACAF) for a place in the finals.
as for the other confederations, the route to the finals will become a lot more clearer as the draw is made to decide which teams will play against with in their respective confederations. ITALY, the current FIFA World Cup holders will be in the main draw as FIFA has stated that the defending champions must play in the qualifiers to order to qualify for the finals.
