What do I have to do to use my Canadian cell phone in Korea?

What do I have to do to use my Canadian cell phone in Korea?

I am moving to South Korea from Canada. I've canceled my Canadian wireless service. What will I need to do to use my cell/mobile phone (with Fido) with a Korean carrier? Do I need to unlock it? What is that exactly?

Korea best answer:

Answer by Erphan
You would need to have an unlock code provided by Fido (which is a GSM carrier owned by Rogers). If they are reluctant to give you a code, just explain to them your moving out of country and you want to take your phone with you, if they still don't you'd have to go on ebay and find someone who could get your unlock code (the code varies based on your phones IMEI number). After that you have to go to South Korea and find a GSM provider to use your phone with because a lot of the carriers in korea and Japan use 5th gen CDMA (not compatible with a Fido phone) and WiMAX (also not compatible) and get service with them and a SIM card from them and put that into your phone. it sound complicated and it kind of is, but you can make it.
