Are there really deployments to Iraq that only last 6 months?

Are there really deployments to Iraq that only last 6 months?

Everyone I know in various branches of the military has served at least a year in Iraq. Now a friend's husband says he only has a 6 month deployment. He is a marine and I am wondering if this is possible. His wife is counting on him being back exactly on the 6 month mark and he has a history of lying. I just want to know if its possible so I can start preparing her if he doesn't come home during the exact time period she thinks.
Wow thanks everyone! I have never received such a good response with thorough answers!

Iraq best answer:

Answer by iknato0n
Marines usually deploy 7 months, sometimes longer, although I believes its very rare. Same as the Air Force I believe. The Navy I am unsure, but the Army usually lasts between 12-15 and the usual stop loss.
