Why Bulgaria's weight-lifters are not as successful as they were at their peak?

Bulgaria used to be proud of its world-class weight-lifters in the past, especially in the Soviet-block era.
And surely enough, they won lots and lots of medals in many world championships and olympics.
But what about now?
They are no longer successful. Do you know why?
Bulgaria best answer:

Answer by Grumbles
Lets see - 2 Bulgarian weightlifters were stripped of there gold medals following the Seoul Olympics for failing drug tests. In Sydney 2000 three Bulgarian medallists were stripped of there medals for failing a drug test and just prior to the Beijing Olympics - following the national selection, 11 Bulgarian weightlifters failed drug tests. The team with drew from Beijing as basically the had no lifters to select. Yes they were successful, but they were part of the drug era that affected the sport for years. Now testing is much more stringent - suprisingly they aren't as good.
