Hi, we are thinking about going to belize as a family vacation, but how safe is it for Americans to be there? How are the politics right now? Is it a place to be right now? Also, do they kidnap americans? So overall, will it be safe for us to go there right now? So, is it safe to go or would we have to worry about getting, kidnapped, targeted for being americans, hurt? <p><i>Answer by Lisa</i><br/>Yes Belize is safe for Americans to travel, much much safer than Mexico. There has been no incidents of Americans specifically being targeted but rather crimes of opportunity are certainly present as with anywhere in the world. Keep your valuables under careful watch and travel smart again as you would anywhere. That is don't flash money around, don't wear expensive jewelry, clothes etc, don't walk in dark or dimly lit out of the way places at night, etc, etc. Have a great trip.</p>
