<h3>In summer 2009 I am traveling from South Africa to Egypt. What is the best way to travel along the way?</h3>
I am buying an airline ticket from Los Angeles to Cape Town, and an airline ticket from Cairo to Los Angeles for 2 months later. Anybody know a reliable way to find out airline destinations between African countries? What about taking buses?
Right now my aim is to hit around the capitols of South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt.

<p><i>Answer by msafwat</i><br/>I have known a couple of people who have done the trip by road, but I have to tell you, although you do have connecting roads all the way (theoretically speaking), but the condition of those roads and the environment surrounding them make the trip a very dangerous adventure. You'll need at least 2 weeks to cover something like 7500 km from Cape to Cairo (strait line distance) in impoverished, diseased and war stricken areas.
And you better forget about buses and public transport all together, they are simply in-existent or in a horrible condition.
Your best option would be flying numerous legs between Capitals, but I have to warn you that not all African countries are directly connected, sometimes you have to fly via Europe to travel between neighboring countries. So better stick to major cities and capitals.
From your list, I would say Cairo, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Adis Ababa are the best interconnected, you could use them as hubs to visit surrounding countries.
