How to get from Greece to Croatia?

I need to find the cheapest and quickest way from Greece to Croatia. I understand that a ferry and bus are very time consuming, and therefore I have been looking for the most affordable flying route from anywhere in Greece (athens would be best) to anywhere in Croatia.
Direct routes from Athens to Dubrovnik are expensive. Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to book two separate flights. One from Athens to another country in Europe. then one the same day departing from that country to Croatia?
If anyone knows of ulternative routes via bus or ferry that are not too time consuming, please let me know. Thanks!
