<h3>Help with Canadian transit visa, travelling from HK to Cayman via Air Canada with connecting flight in Toronto?</h3>
Hi,
I will travel this month from Manila to HK to Toronto to Cayman Islands. My travel from HK to Toronto to Cayman is via Air Canada. Will I be needing a Canadian transit visa?
Please help.
Thanks.

<p><i>Answer by GerdP</i><br/>It depends on your citizenship whether you will need to get a transit visa for Canada based on your itinerary. You will need a transit visa if your country is listed here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp ..
The application, if required, is free of charge.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp ..
Transit without visa is only available for citizen of selected countries who hold a valid visa for the United States.

Your information is wrong; Canada has abolished the transit without visa facility after 9/11, same as the U.S. I quote the information of Air Canada:
"Along with the normal travel documents required to enter Canada, additional documents may be required depending on your country of origin, even if they are used solely to land in Canada and re-board a connecting flight."
http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/before/traveldoc.html ..
In other words:
Passengers must be pre-checked by a Canadian Visa Office and must hold a transit visa even if they do not need to pass Canada's immigration control. Airlines are obliged not to transport passengers who do not have the appropriate visa for changing airplanes in Canada, if it is required based on their citizenship.

@John Levine:
Only transit passengers to the United States will need to pass through Canadian immigration since they will need to pass U.S. immigration through U.S. pre-clearance facilities in Canada and will arrive in the United States on domestic terminals.
International transit passengers with destinations other than the United States will not see a Canadian immigration officer but they will transit "airside".</p>
