Are the main cities of mainland China nice compared to Singapore and Hong Kong?

I'm from Hong Kong, I've been to mainland China once but a long time ago so can't remember much. But what are cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen like? How would you rate them compared to HK and Singapore? Are they as nice as HK and Singapore? Where would you prefer to live?
Hong Kong best answer:

Answer by Don
The skyscrapers, infrastructure and even the nicer hotels, restaurants and shopping in some of Mainland China's cities are quite similar to Hong Kong and Singapore, the quality of the people though, (sigh,) will have to take 1-2 more generations to catch up. It only takes a few years to have a world class railroad or airport erected but teaching the entire population to behave in responsible, honest and unselfish manner will have to take generations especially when the people had gone through such extent of devastations and sufferings throughout their life time just before China's door-opening of some 30 years ago. Sorry to have made such a remark but it's an undeniable fact recognized by ALL overseas Chinese, a good case in point is the way how Mainlander Chen handed out charity money in Taiwan although he finally has to give in and donate the money through a charitable organization, as Taiwanese describe Chen on TV "rough and no class".
By and large the behaviors of the citizens bring about the "image" of the country. When one talks about Japan, it's full of admirations that the people are polite and honest, etc. Chinese leaders should really sit down and think the reasons why many countries around the world "dislike" China including Li Kwen Yeu of Singapore, from Mainlander Chen's case, could it possibly be certain Chinese behaviors deviate from the "norms" of the outside world? Mainlanders think distributing piles of cash to the needys in a high profile manner infront of TVs and media is nothing wrong, but the outside world think otherwise, so do Chinese Leaders able to grasp what really goes wrong? All in all, the outside world sees Mainlanders 4 little words, "lack considerations for others".
Back to your question, when one is staying in any given city for long, it's not just the skyscrapers or shopping malls that one is after, rather it's the behaviors and quality of the people that is so vital in the day-to-day, for instance no foreigners like going to a place that is constantly being pushed or elbowed by the people around not to mention all the dishonest behaviors, sorry again to have said this. I went to the bank the other day in Shanghai to deposit 900 Yuan into the account, without knowing I handed the teller 1000 Yuan instead. When the transaction was almost completed, she never said anything about the extra 100 Yuan throughout, I checked my wallet and realized that 100 Yuan was missing, I immediately have her counted again the money and with an embarrassed look on her face, she gave me back the missing 100 Yuan. I could compile a book full of dishonest things I encounter, well I guess this is China of modern day. There may also be similar crooks found in Singapore, Hong Kong or the US but the chances are definitely much slimmer.
Traffic jams are horrible in Beijing, Guangzhou and most other big cities. Why? One of the reasons being not enough side roads or roads joining 2 main roads in parrallel to let the cars come out of the main roads so cars just have to be packed all on the main or ring roads. Public transportations in the Mainland are also horrible as compared to Hong Kong and Singapore.
