Now the question comes that why Rose bush care needs pruning? Pruning provides good shape and growth to the plant. Once you have cut down the old canes of your rose bush, plant looks more attractive and the old diseased canes are removed. It also helps in promoting growth of new shoots and buds. It gives more blooms. Good pruning also helps in removing the stems with fungal disease.
There is no doubt that pruning is very good for Rose bush care. With bad pruning, you can even kill your plant. Pruning encourages new growth and bloom, it removes dead wood and improves air circulation and of course gives a good shape to plant.
While pruning, there are some basics which you should know.
Always use clean and sharp tools, give a close look to whole plant but prune plant from the base. Prune the plant in the way so that the center of the plant should be open to light and air circulation.Makes the cuts at the angle of 45 degree. Cut it at about 1/4 inch above the bud that is facing towards the outside of the plant. Do not forget to remove all broken, dead and dying wood.
If you see any branch that is thinner than a pencil, remove it, if you see any sucker growth below the graft, remove it.

Timings of pruning are determined according to the class of rose plant and the zone in which it is growing. Mostly rose pruning is done in the spring season. Hybrid tea roses are the most particular about pruning. Sometimes we don't come to know about the type of the rose which we have. In those cases it is recommended to wait for a season and watch the plant. If the plant blooms early on the last year's cane, do not prune it until after flowering. Pruning is done to produce best possible flowers and to remove dead parts. So do it when ever it is required, with some extra care. Good pruning will give you good very results.
