Lady Macbeth and Lady Michelle - Two Manipulative Peas in a Pod?

lady

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama may not physically resemble the Lady Macbeth I had always envisioned, especially in a pants suit, but America's new First Lady may be the true power behind America's new President Obama's throne.

You may recall Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth, the scary, ambitious, vicious, murderous, and manipulative wife of the title character in Macbeth. Adorned with a few scraggly chin hairs and with some eye of newt, she could have been the model for those 3 potion-stirring witches who open the play. Or for Hillary Clinton, for that matter, providing they could match her witchy cackle.

Mrs. Obama has no visible chin hairs as yet but she does have a history of, not witchcraft, but surely a certain familiarity with at least one of the dark arts, assuming a deep and abiding racism, a hatred and distrust of Whitey going back to her college years, qualifies as a dark art.

Lady Michelle was largely kept under wraps throughout much of the presidential campaign after it was discovered she tended to shoot off her mouth almost as much as the Dem VP candidate, Joe Biden. She didn't tell a crippled man at a Missouri rally to stand up, as Joe did, but her infamous line about feeling proud of America for the first time in her life after her hubby was nominated was far more outrageous.

So, in Obama's highly-scripted campaign, she was deemed a liability and was shuffled off to Buffalo or to the friendlier confines of her million dollar Chicago home, purchase of which was facilitated by a guy named Tony Rezko. (Rezko is a convicted crook, but that's another whole story.)

Needless to say, just as hubby's reference to campaigning in all 57 states with just two to go was ignored by an idolatrous mainstream media, along with his and Biden's many other gaffes, so too was Lady Michelle's foot-in-mouth disease.

Fortunately, you can run and be muzzled but you can't as easily hide on the other side of the Pond in Merry Ol' England and at least one Brit writer, James Delingpole, has outed Lady Michelle's concessions of hateful racism in a piece entitled, "Was 'Lady Macbeth' Behind Barack Obama's Snub of Gordon Brown?"

In an article in TheTelegraph.com about President Obama's now-famous snubs of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and thus of Britain itself, Delingpole diverts his focus to Lady Michelle's plausible and sinister machinations that may account for those insults. He sees them as perhaps motivated by, "Her broad-brush view of history [which] associates Brits with the wicked white global hegemony responsible for the slave trade." (See the Delingpole link at the bottom of this page.)

Above all else and if nothing else in the twenty-first century, the Brits have their pride. Their worldwide empire, which blossomed after bad weather trashed the Spanish Armada in 1588, and once encompassing fully a quarter of the globe, is long gone. It began to be whittled away after America told George III to stuff it in his wig in 1776 and was effectively ended when Mahatma Gandhi proved that passive resistance was mightier than England's sword in 1947.

Frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn about snubbing P.M. Brown, aside from the fact it evidenced the foolish and amateurish nature of the new administration. Nor do I give a flying fig about presumed or actual insults to the English or their lost empire. When they apologize for the atrocities committed against the Irish people for centuries, I might re-consider. But I doubt it.

In any event, that piece on TheTelegraph.com had its redeeming social value by re-exposing what is actually old news, that Lady Michelle, when she was a lowly undergrad at lowly Princeton University, wrote a senior thesis in 1985 that was blatantly racist. For some reason, her mentor and other profs at Princeton overlooked its distinctly racist cast. She went so far as to write, "Regardless of the circumstances under which I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

Can we all say, political correctness run amok? Can we all ask, What would be the professorial view of a White student writing comparable opinions in a senior Princeton thesis? I'd guess that student would still be re-writing his or her thesis until it complied with standard P.C. practice.

Delingpole comments on Michelle: "Here we see that she has mastered the authentic voice of grievance culture. . . No matter how hard young Michelle's white undergraduate contemporaries try to be nice, it's not their behaviour that counts, but how Michelle feels," because, after all, doesn't one's perception of racism make racism a fact?

One reason the overt racism in that thesis was old news is that the essence and details of that thesis had already been highlighted elsewhere and on my blogsite. Also, inexplicably, Princeton officials suppressed it until they were forced to release it to the public. (See http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=128.)

However, let's give belated credit where and when it's due. Mr. Delingpole did point out Lady Michelle's view of the "white global hegemony" and admission of being above all, Black, apparently above being a proud American for most of her life. He also provides some very salient insights into the English view of our president, including, "Obama's judgment is [considered] pretty dreadful."

Lady Michelle Obama's life and race views are sort of funny, until you attempt to parse her statements. Then they become foreboding. What does she mean, that she considers her race the most important thing in her life? That she has always been proud of her Blackness but only recently proud of her American-ness? That, now, with her spousal influence, she can effect racial and racial-social remedies formerly denied to her?

Who knows?

What I know is that Americans, Black and White, had better keep a close eye on this new First Lady. She very well may turn out to be more scary, more ambitious, more vicious, and more manipulative than Lady Macbeth. She may even make us wish for the bygone days of First Lady Hillary Clinton.

Now, that IS scary!
